la playa

Where do you end, and the rest of the world begins?

At a place of ambiguity, ephemerality, and possibility. In a space of heightened awareness, between land and sea, that grows, shifts and dissolves.  Calm and enchanting, unstable and dangerous, LA PLAYA is a metaphor for the intersection between self, the natural world and the intangible freedom that surrounds us.

LA PLAYA draws inspiration from Galofre's upbringing in Andean habitats, her adventures in the American West, and her defining visit to the Portuguese Azores Islands. Through ethereal impressions of presence and absence, this body of work seeks to create conditions of consciousness, where transition realms are wild, intangible, and ever-present. Thus, creating poetic associations that bring forth a dynamic outlook on the current ecological reality which suggest a renewed understanding of the Earth. Informed by her culture and realized through her practice, this project becomes an active way to fill the gap we’ve created with our environment - emphasizing a poetic culture-nature intersection, the passage of time, and the limitless nature of the unknown.
